● Sounds.
The first way to identify the Phoenix animal in your attic is the sound it makes. If you hear a scratching or clawing then you can conclude that it is a rodent. A late night noise can tell you that is is mice or rats in the walls. If the noises are more daytime then it is more likely a squirrel or such.

● The type of entry hole.

Either way there must be an entry point for the rodent or furry friend in your attic. Brown grease around a hole is from rats. A hole with some chewing around it is from a squirrel. Bats will often leave droppings at their entry way. If the roof looks torn up a bit and is around 2 inches then you have a raccoon in your attic.

● The types of feces.
Most of the time there are different types of feces when you look in your attic. The most recent and fresh ones will indicate of animal living up there. Take a picture of the fecal matter and compare it online with other animals to establish which one it is. Another strong give away is the type of damage done to the things in the attic or other parts of the house by the Phoenix animals.

● Chewed on cables.
This is the first sign that there is a Phoenix rodent in your home. They like to chew on cords and wires that pass through the attic. If the cord is completely torn apart the you know the culprit is more likely to be a raccoon. Now that you have an idea of what it is that could be in your attic you can start by closing the entry hole on the outside to keep it out. A suitable trap will keep the intruder in place for you to find them when you return. For a violent animal such as a raccoon, seek a professional first.
